This ongoing project addresses globalisation and the commons; science and sustainability policy; and classic philosophical debates on agency and contradiction; production and reproduction. It maps an 'embodied materialism' and draws the diverse altermondiale movements together under the integrating concept of 'meta-industrial labour'.

The perspective grew out of my reading of critical sociology and hands-on experience of care-giving, anti-nuclear struggles, water catchment politics, and biodiversity conservation.

The analysis has benefited from many academic opportunities, including time spent as Visiting Scholar in Environmental Conservation Education at New York University; as Visiting Professor at the Institute for Women's Studies in Manila; and as Associate Professor in Social Ecology at the University of Western Sydney.

An embodied materialist perspective also informs my editorial work with - Capitalism Nature Socialism - which journal is now an important source of ecofeminist writing
